Yet another whats it worth thread.

I have decided it's time to upgrade from the BMW to something a little bit more modern. Currently contemplating a 2002 Mondeo TDCI. However, I am not too sure as to how much to advertise the BMW for. It's a 1995 N 525TDS. 177k, tax end feb, MOT march. Tidy car. Few little rust scabs, but not too bad. Full electrics, RCL, parking sensors, 15" BMW alloys, serviced, new rear brakes etc.

I have put it on here for 995. I paid a bit more in March when I bought it, and have spent a bit on it. Have I overpriced it? What should I be looking for wither private or trade in against a £2k mondeo?

You could try "webuyanycar" for a valuation, it's probably going to be low though.

I'd be surprised if a dealer gave you anything other than peanuts if you were try to trade it in. Much better to go for a straight sale and negotiate as much discount as you can.

I use gumtree to resell and its been quite successful in my area - and its free. If you dont get any calls within a few days, then drop the price a bit.

My gut feeling, based on your description and mileage is around £650.

I reckon that's not too far off the mark as diesels still sell. My 93 540i netted me roughly £800 on trade-in recently - had all the toys but needed real money spent on it. Garage bunged it up for £1995!!

My trade was against a £5500 motor.

£995 sounds reasonable. The buyer you are aiming for is someone who either knows BMWs or knows the TDS' in particular, rather then just someone looking for a sub £1k car.

Looking around, its worth it. Plenty around with higher miles than yours and simlar prices.

You'll get plenty of folk trying it on, telling you the car is overpriced but unless you are in a hurry, ignore them and you should achieve £850>
