the lady for some reason has decided she wants a brand new c30 r design. Whilst personally i would like her to look at other stuff she seems to have convinced herself.

So what are they like?

On looking on the volvo site they seem not to do the 1.6 any more? is this the case?

I haven't owned one but did consider buying one. Took one for a test drive and two things that struck me:
  • The manual has no foot rest next to the clutch.
  • The boot is tiny
Depending on circumstances these may be more or less of an issue. Definitely nice looking and driving cars.

I think that, like the s40 they are a focus underneath, so to drive they are the same. But probably better quality and nicer seats

+1

I had a drive and really quite liked it, but just couldn't live with,

  • The manual has no foot rest next to the clutch (presumably not a problem in LHD markets)
  • The luggage cover was pitifully inadequate. In reality anything in the boot would always be on show.

The boot and boot opening are tiny somehow volvo built all the space out of the car.

If it's the 2.0D your looking at, be aware that there are some HUGE service costs...

Ask for price for 72,000 service and a wheel bearing for example....

Nice cars though thumbup

We really liked our C30 2.0d R-Design (09 plate). Great interior - 4 proper seats (but that does mean it is ONLY a 4 seater), good to drive and felt a lot lighter and more responsive than the 1-Series we compared it to (heresy to some on here, I know hehe).

Downsides are that the boot is small and the opening is worse, but the back seats do fold individually. We only sold it as we wanted more practicality for carrying the baby and associated kit.
