2 Alpina questions.

Firstly - whats the insurance like vs their BMW counterpart? Would get a quote myself, but can't find a single D10 for sale (e39 530d).

Also noticed they did an Alpina version of the 330ix (4wd 330i, wasn't sold in the UK) - was this ever RHD / in the UK?

Hiya

until recently I didn't realise they did an E39 D10 version, however I think it was a European version only, and wasn't a UK spec model. You could try searching on the continent for one and then use a specialist insurer to get you covered.

Not sure about the 330iX, perhaps another Euro only model.. not really sure about having 4 wheel drive in the UK as the winters are much milder here than other countries.

Cheers, Dennis!

As Dennis says, the D10 didn't come here officially: I know of one brought over by the importer, not heard of it for ages. The Alpina 4wd cars didn't come here either, & didn't get RHD: if you're seriously after either, www.autoscout24.com or www.mobile.de are worth looking through.

Don't buy a D10. Definitely not the best car Alpina has ever made. When you look around on mobile.de, a lot of them have an 'Austauschmotor' (replacement engine). Mate of mine owned one and it was by far the worst BMW he ever owned. And seriously outdated when it comes to power (still not exactly a slouch though). An E60 530d or 535d is faster.

Ooooh Alpina....my soft spot.

330iX never came here. Sold better in countries with snowy weather on the continent.

D10 a good car although latest BMW installations make it look alittle under endowed. 265 ish brake from memory cant be bad and I knowsomeone who's D10 has done 180K miles and is sweet as a nut. No RHD though and thats the issue. I ran a E34 B10 Bi Turbo for a while and left hand drive is a pain. Overtaking is hard work, Maccy D drive thrus a no no, the M6 toll is impossible without a passenger to pay etc etc.

Depends what you're after but a B3S is great, B10 (any), E28 B7 Turbo AMAZING!
