Steering Wheel Angles

Not a fan of the A-Class, but after having to move one to a wider space to change the windscreen, what's going on with the steering wheel? It's almost vertical!

Off the top of my head, I think some of the earlier VW Polos are the same.

I've always felt that the angled wheels are better - this just felt wrong.

I'd say the top and bottom of the wheel should be the same distance from the driver's shoulders? Most cars are too angled for my liking.
