Got myself a Hobbyzone Firebird Freedom off the Bay for £31 with spare set of wings (not so spare now!) and spare battery.

Flight 1: in light rain, batteries had not been used in a long time so very short flight time but enough to get off the ground fly a couple of loops and get it back down to earth in one piece. Was quite nervous, and could feel some adrenaline pumping, but it was good.

Flight 2, Saturday: took off, got a bit cocky looked to get some good height and ended up flying it in the wrong direction, out of the field. It hit a tree, I thought i had lost it but managed to find it but with both wings broken. I previously had rc cars and dont find the controls too difficult but found it quite hard to judge when i had completed a turn/ which way it is travelling.

Flight 3; Great flight on Sunday. Plenty of controlled loops, few climbs and dives and some good controlled landings with litle flares at the end to kill the speed. i like the plane- easy to fly and great fun, especially when i bring it directly overhead. For a £31 starter I cant complain!

Just thought i'd share my first experiences- the mr's wont listen!

Many years ago, a mate and I built a glider and took it to fly up on Castle Hill in Huddersfield.

It was awesome and flew really well. I remember us even having a little crowd gather to watch us fly the little beastie around the hill. That was until I carried out a cracking climb and roll and one of the wings failed where the tip dihedral was glued to the wing.

The audible groan from the assembled crowd as our yellow machine spiralled helplessly into the ground will stay with me forever.

We never did rebuild it, but it stayed as a mascot to our short lived triumph on a shelf in or student house.

Happy days.
