I have heard of RUF putting both 3.4 and 3.6 litre 996 engines in a Boxster. If you wish to put a GT3 engine in a Boxster I suggest you contact the following three german manufacturers/tuners:

RUF
Gemballa
Techart

DAZ

Wait for Iguana to catch this, I know he spent a fair bit of time looking into and advising on a conversion.

Hmm, what sort of info are you after "findin" out ref a "convirsin" then?...

So have you got a Box 2.5, 2.7, 'S' ???

Yip I was involved a few yrs back with sorting a normal 3.4 996 engine into a 2.5 Box- 95% of the bits are readily available & deliverable from companies in the fatherland quicker & easier than you can say sourkraut, leiderhosen, & world domination some bits like engine mounts needed specialist work but even those bits may be sorted by now.

Chap who did all the spannering & has also since bunged a GT3 lump in a Box 'S' for a punter, (and yes I have been trying to sort out a drive in the flipping thing for many months now!) drop me a line & I'll pass on his contact info.

Alex. We have spoken about this before - and I have the thought that if I keep the car for some years I may, rather than change it, fit a significantly uprated engine.

We have discussed whether or not the chassis is strong enough to take the additional power...

I'd appreciate your thoughts:

Is the chassis really too weak for 340 - 380 bhp?
Could one strengthen the chassis? If so...what level of bhp could one go for? I fancy 400 or more (should the money be available...)

Spoke to my tech and he reckons the GT3 Boxster (which he knew) was tearing itself to pieces, so defo needs extra strengthening.

There was a 996TT powered one with 420bhp for sale a while back.

I reckon it would make more sense to ask 9M to do a Boxster RS and throw your cupholders in his big brabantia bin.

Some guys near me in Brum did a 3.4l twin turbo Boxter a while ago. Same car was for sale a couple of months ago. It apparently went like stink.

I think they have a 3.6l late 996 lump waiting to go into another Boxter at the moment. I can pass contact details on if anyone is interested.

I'd certainly like to know who they are...the work isn't an immediate thing for me but I'd like to store up their contact details so that when and if the time comes...

Imagine a Boxster with 450bhp. I reckon that would "f * * k me" fast, as its known.

I would have a good look at a 6 year old Boxster when it is up on ramps before i considered a larger heavier more powerful engine. You may re-think.

Probably a good idea to find out what RUF do in terms of structural improvements prior to tuning.

The Murcie driver at VMax was quoted as saying "i'm not racing some boxster" would love to see his face when a 450bhp boxster flies past with the hood down!

Yes. There is a reason that the 996 Turbo is a heavier car than the Boxster - its got to be strong enough to take the bhp. So RUF must do quite a bit of work when they create their monster-machines I'd have thought...

I wasn't trying to wind you up Don,,,but consider the first generation 996 GT2 was 457 bhp..this is Porsche over engineering...big brakes (not on the track!) steel synchros...etc...

The Boxster looks accountant engineered, you get underneath an older example and it is more modern VW than Porsche,,,I would want to spend a lot of money to feel safe, they are fine as they are but not over engineered like some of the older or more modern track focussed Porkers......having said that I would love to see a decent conversion.

Churlishly I had a run with a Boxta S on my way back from Goodwood.......I think the guy was a little intimidated, I would have shown a lot of respect if the tables were turned and I couldn't catch it!
