Discussion
Really? I hope so but they only recently announced price increases for 2011 & 2012.

welsh toll is only 1 way, ie for the english to visit wales it is £3-5, for the welsh to visit England, it is free
£5.50 going up to £5.70 in January, but if you have a car derived van, like I do, it's £10.90 going up to £11.50.All bridge tolls are a joke.

When I saw the report it didnt imply the cost was going to be £2.50.... just that the tolls were going.

Guess the Blackwall tunnel is going to get really busy!
How is it we have contributed to Spain's roads yet UK motorists pay out of their own pockets.
I do pity those who have to use it daily.
So also the death of the Dart-Tag and the discount that went with it?
When the "new" crossing is built, will that also be a toll road??

more than i thought it did, why car derived vans more ?
what is the cost of going the long way round ?
I've never understood why car derived vans should be more, they say it's because they're commercial but that doesn't make sense to me, what about taxis, sales reps or people who need to drive as part of their job. Why should a courier have to pay more than a taxi driver when a taxi driver is being paid far more per mile than a courier. My van is private & never gets used for work any more but is still charged as commercial. what is the cost of going the long way round ?
I have gone round before & although it only works out five miles longer it adds at least an hour to the journey, mainly being stuck behind lorries on the A40/A48.
Scotland had the right idea scrapping all tolls, but the problem with Dartford is not the money, although I hate paying it, it's the congestion caused by paying it but I can't see any English government scrapping the tolls when there is so much easy money to be taken from the motorist.
ETA.. You've got me on my soapbox now.

What is really crazy about the M25 is they have & are still currently widening all the known congestion areas which is good, but it is only going to increase the congestion at Dartford because now traffic is getting there quicker than it ever has previously. Less congestion on the rest of the M25 will mean longer queues at Dartford & the best solution they come up with is installing a camera system to charge tolls in 2012. Great, but what about foreign motorists or people that don't have the capability or want to pay automatically? There will still have to be manual toll booths & there will still be congestion for everybody.
The only way is to deal with the regular congestion at Dartford is to scrap the tolls.
