Wondered what is considered a good time on the 'slightly' changed National circuit.

Nice, but you probably have more chance with Mary of Xfactor...

And obviously no timing was done however as your Fav band Bucks Fizz the say, camera never lies..

Of course it depends on the car.

A really really poor time in a Radical may be a fantastic time for a hatch etc.

On the day of our road and track testing at Donington, the GT3 RS’ drive was simply the most involving, enjoyable and satisfying of all the sports cars involved.”

The British-built Noble M600 was ranked in second place, with judges praising its polished, surprisingly benign chassis and steering, the progressiveness of its controls and its astonishing straight-line pace.

Third place went to the Ferrari 458 Italia, the fastest car on the day around the Donington circuit at 1min 15.9sec.

Autocar’s judging team included chief road tester Matt Prior, editor-at-large Steve Sutcliffe and senior contributing writer Andrew Frankel. They took eleven cars, worth just under £1,000,000 collectively, and tested them on some of the UK’s best driving roads, as well as one of its most testing racing circuits. After a lot of driving, and some equally intense deliberation, their votes were delivered and a final order decided.

“Some modern supercars are so quick that their electronic driving aids actually make them more enjoyable,” said Prior. “A moderately handy driver can often extend his own limits, and take the car’s performance further, while knowing there’s a back-up if things go wrong.”

“The best driver’s cars, however, are still those that don’t induce fear when you push the ‘ESP’ off button. They work with you, communicate with you, and allow you to exploit them for pure amusement. The Porsche 911 GT3 RS ticks all the boxes and more. It’s a very worthy winner.”

On this basis, the old beetle (which is clearly anything but standard) is about 10 seconds a lap quicker than whomever peddled the 997.2 GT3RS, on that day in those conditions!

Like I said, you need to think about getting a racing license (as do I biggrin)!

I managed a couple of 1:19s in a race prepared Dunlop Sports Maxx Nissan 370z (run by RJN Motorsport) on Direzza's on my first test/race weekend back in September.

Have wondered since how that compares with some "road" cars so interesting thread...

I went along to watch the classic sports car club race meet at the end of October. There was a huge variety of cars racing. All of their times can be found on the TSL site here:

Interestingly, I was on a trackday at Donny a couple of weeks earlier where a few of the Caterhams that were due to race in the aforementioned series turned up for a bit of practice. They were extremely rapid out on track (and courteous at the same time) and am not one bit surprised of the times they achieved in the subsequent race meet.

Are you saying that the OP is doing 1.06's at Donington? That's Radical territory! From what I can see from this year's practice times, carrera cup cars are running 1.08 at best...

Would be very difficult to get a clear lap on a trackday at those speeds.

As you know lap timing persay is not allowed, however the timer on the camera was indicating laps in the area of 1.17.

IIRC a race prepped 964 (until it broke..) and a 944 turbo were both in the 1.20, 1.21 area at the future classics in Oct

you've probably got a bit more horsepower, but a lot heavier also....

To be fair I think 3 - 4 seconds a lap is quite a big difference, after all it was a fairly full track day as opposed to a race day and all the different rules and skill's of the drivers that brings. Not sure that Donnington is all about power either, but I may be wrong there. All in all enjoyed my day and quite happy with the performance of the car, idea of the post was just to get an idea of cars and times and certainly never my intention to beat my chest, as that would hurt.
