Kitchen sink & drainage board

Morning,

I'm getting a new worktop put in to the kitchen (previous owner had a vile pink thing) and a new sink. I'm not sure quite where to put the new sink and drainage grooves in the worktop.

This is the kitchen as it currently is:


and this is the sink i'm going for:


Obviously the sink will go in above the cupboard facing the window. I'm just not sure whether to have the grooves to the right or left of it. Any feedback is much appreciated

If you're only having one set of grooves, then put 'em to the left of that sink set up. Logic is that most right handed people wash up by holding the item in their left hand, use the mop or whatever in their right and then stuff comes out of the sink on to the draining board on the left.

But why not have two sets, one each side?

If you put the grooves into the corner of the room you will lose the use of the corner worktop area and if you put any small appliance on the worktop above the cupboard on the left hand wall, it will restrict you getting to anything on the drainer.
Using the area in front of the window for the drainer would be what I'd do, and keep the areas with wall behind the worktops for appliances.
Those sinks can't be very large if they both fit into a 600mm unit!

Funny how no one can seem agree on this, it's a split right down the middle from everyone i've asked.

Pros for having the grooves on the right hand side:
- looks quite 'balanced', sinks & grooves in line with the windows
- corner on the left side of the worktop can be used for appliances rather than a dish rack

Pros for the left hand side:
- dish racks aren't the most pleasing things to the eye, would be better to tuck it away on the left than in the middle of the kitchen
- more workspace to the right of the sink, closer to the hob (right hand side of the kitchen)

Not very keen on having grooves on either side... If i can't choose between the above I might just not have any at all!

Where's the cooker?

If it's on the left then put the grooves on the right and vice versa... my reasoning is that you tend to use worksurface space when cooking, and therefore near the cooker, so put the grooves away from that so you have max worksurface space there.
