Does anyone ever actually use one of these things? It's sitting in the boot on my Chimaera taking up space, and frinky I can't see the point....

But are the tyre foam alternatives any good, or just a decent membership of the AA?!

AFAIK the foams are unreliable. It's more a statistical question of whether you're next for a puncture I think the last time I had one was around 1977 - now that is tempting fate! - so I leave my spacesaver where it is and always carry jack and brace. Mind you, I've no idea where the jack locates to use it!

I ditched my space saver (because I needed the space) and carry a couple of cans plus a foot pump.

I've never actually had to use them, but all the advice I've had is that the cans can be unreliable (hence carry two) and will not put enough pressure back into the tyre to drive safely (hence the foot pump).
