Routine oil change

Went to local Unipart and asked for GFE181 - been superseded by GFE295

Change went OK - oil pressure sat at start where it was before and then as the engine warmed the needle started to fall. It got to 0.5 and I switched off. Checked the filter for leaks and started again revved to 2000 and it would not hold pressure properly - it was all over the place.

Thought that the pressure relief valve might be sticking but it was OK

I don't know why but I decided to order a Fram and tried that: Oil pressure 50% higher at ide and no falling back when warm or variability

As you can see there on the Fram there's an angled shoulder leading to the rubber ring, there are eight larger holes and a much more pronounced plateau leading to the centre hole

Yeah I use the FRAM ones too - but they are white. Used to be orange...

If it's for a V8, I use Fram 'PH8A', which is black, and I've had no issues.

I've always used the Fram - PH2821a.

Sad that I even remember the reference number frown (I am a closet wedge sado frown )

The Fram also has an anti drain one way valve, which is useful when mounted upside down.

Just changed mine - got Fram PH2821a from Halfords, and that's black. Last year's was white.

The "Adam Quantrill method"

Oil filter off, squeezy bottle of oil with plastic tube extension, invert into centre hole tightly and squeeze hard

Wait till oil comes out the other hole and keep squeezing for about 10 seconds

(thanks Adam!)

Easy to check if new oil filter has a check valve, just try blowing and sucking up the centre hole, you'll be able to do one but not both,if you can do both then there ain't no check valve, john.

I've got several spare Unipart GFE 295 oil filters which all look identical to the photo of the Fram filter and have 8 holes in the top!

I take it I have to disconnect one of the pipes going into the the engine block as there are 2 other hole to choose from asides the centre one??

I ordered a FRAM PH2821A from Racing Green for my 400SE and was sent a UFI 2310200. Any comments on its compatability?

Too late! I've already bought the UFI 2310200! Question is, is it OK?

And how have you found it?
I can get the croslands and K&N oil filters here in australia. I've not seen Fram or unipart.
