Ok - I have a impreza STi 2010 (not the new spec C)

I am not a hooligan but I find the lack of soundtrack from the exhaust disapointing and to be honest with the short gearing it makes it diffucult to hear when a gear change is needed especially when listening to music - so I was considering replacing the rear exhaust

1. I dont wanna go boy racer loud just a subtle sound would be good
2. I want to keep the 4 pipes to keep it looking standard

what are the options?

Thanks in advance

Not sure on exhausts for the 2010, but you realise you'll probably invalidate your warranty by changing right..?

Unless you buy aftermarket backboxes that are approved by Subaru, which will probably have to come from your Suabru dealer at a ridiculous price, it would be classed as an unaproved modification and technically invalidate your warranty. However, if they are anything like my local dealer who i know well and IMHO are one of the best car dealerships i've ever known, it's likely they will just say that it will be fine if you buy good quality aftermarket backboxes.

By changing your backboxes it's highly unlikely they will be responsible for any mechanical/engine issues on your Suabru, and i'm sure your dealer understands this. If anything they will be a little bit more free flowing/less restrictive.

What you have to appreciate is that the lack of burble from the latest generation Subaru car is more down to the twin exhasuts. The exhaust manifold, uppipe, downpipe and scrubber cat are identical to newage cars however, the centre pipe splits into two, and at the end of each branch there is a bloody great big muffler that's well packed out no doubt.

My gues is that changing the backboxes might not entirely do the job. I reckon if you changed the split centre pipe for something more like a newage subaru and just have a single exit then i think you'll get your burble properly back just like newage cars.

Surprising how much the lack of exhaust note somewhat spoils the experience. Haywood & Scott are good, and their twin exhaust for the new Impreza claims to have brought back the burble.

that’s the baby I would get wink pricy though given that you need a new centre pipe frown

Pretty much what he said.

I changed the centre section and back box on my Scoob while under warranty and just cleared it with my local stealer first. The car did need warranty work after this, not related to the exhaust, and it was honoured without issue.
I know that Miltek produce a system for the newage car and it keeps the twin tail pipes but still doesnt quite sound like the classic Impreza sound you are thinking of. Its not a bad sound though.

Got any snaps of the car? What do you make of it so far?

Do Prodrive make a backbox for them - my old PPP backbox on my WRX was probably bang on what you are looking for... I would imagine the 4 inch H&S to sound like my current Afterburner (which is a little rude), but the twin might be more low key. Looking on scooby world, they seem to have a deal that includes the centre pipe for 500 pounds or so (still a whack for a zorst).

sounds like good advice folks - thanks

car is great - getting about 24mpg doing short ish trip and a bit more on runs out - driving fairly careful TBH with the odd bwarrrpp when I get the chance

the only disappointment is the lack of exhaust note

no pictures but is visually the same as the one in this advert but it is a standard STi
