It’s alfa time.

I’m looking at 4 different cars at the mo.

2x 04/05 Alfa GT 3.2
2x 04 Alfa 147 GTA

The GTA’s are a bit cheaper than the GT’s but don’t have the same svelte lines. Only one of the cars (a GTA) has the Q2 diff so that will need to be done anyway.

All 4 have done between 50,000 and 60,000 miles. All have the requisite time belt changes etc etc

How the hell do I decide between them? I’ve always had a soft spot for the GTA’s but lately I also have a hankering for the stylish lines of the GT. It will live in a garage during the week and only come out on weekends for a mix of longer distance stuff and just running around town.

Outright sportiness is not too much of an issue – I have a slush fund set up just waiting for the right track day prepped MX5 to come up so that will take car of that.

I'd always be tempted by the lines of the coupe over the shape of a hatch and I think the interior is nicer too. But it would come down to condition to be honest and how the suspension (expensive to repair) felt on each of the cars and how each felt on a test drive.

Or to throw a spanner in the works how about a 156 GTA? Nicer to drive than the 147 GTA, more intimate interior than both and already becoming a modern classic. Between the 147 GTA and the GT 3.2 I would go for the 147 on the basis the GTA version stands out from the lesser models and will always hold its money better.

^^^ I think the GT is quite an average looking coupe but the GTA just stands out as something special.

If one has Q2 fitted and has been looked after, then it sounds good to me. yes

+1. One of the best cars I've owned. Forget stories about torque steer and the like, load of tosh. In real world driving will also be alot better than the 147.

Great handling, great looks and fab engine sound. Will embarrass many a so called 'sports car' in the right hands.

Go for the Sportswagon. Bargain prices at the moment and very very rare, no doubt future classic.
