Nintendo DS - A parents guide

Folks,

Looking to get one for the young boy for Christmas. Where do I start and what do I look for ?

Are there different versions ? Which is most suitable for a 5 year old ?

get the extended warranty

the hinges are notoriously weak.

personally i'd go for either the dsi (i dont think they sell the normal DS now do they?)

lol I wouldnt say "notoriously". You dont work for PC World do you?
Save your money and dont waste it on an extended warranty.
A DS is cheap enough these days and pretty hard wearing.

We've had a DS for about 2 years, our daughter is now nearly 6. It's needed replacing twice from being dropped, once into water and the second onto a hard tiled floor. The warranty was worth every penny.

Oh, and buy plenty of spare styluses and keep a couple handy. They need replacing rather regularly, particularly on long car/plane journeys. Funnily enough a small black plastic stick is rather hard to see once it's been dropped on the floor/behind the seat.
