Hi folks,
Can anyone help me out with an oil leak on a 2002 TD6 vogue?
Ive got an oil leak and cant tell where its coming from. It has only started happening since i had it serviced and it leaks ever since.
The top half of the engine is very clean but the sump and all the surrounding area is covered in oil. It seems to be coming from both of the sump nuts but they are both tight. It has covered the transfer box and the crossmember but it is not obvious where its coming from. Ive had it all cleaned off, up on a ramp and left running for some time but it was dry as a bone. Typically it has started again, oil all over the garage floor and the bottom end of the engine. I am constantly dipping the oil but dont seem to be loosing any.
Any ideas please?
Many thanks,
Muffster.

It's a Landrover design feature darind back to 1949. When it stops leaking it means you need to top up the oil. smile

The Disco 300TDi I bought of a colleague had exactly the same problem, and I suspect it may be the same cause on your car.
When the oil filter was removed, it had to be manoeuvred past the front axle and diff, and inevitably was tilted to do this. Therefore a certain amount of oil was always accidentally tipped over the diff, along with a dribble of oil dripping from the filter mount. This became rather runny when the diff got hot, and subsequently ran around it until it reached the bottom and dripped on the floor. The guy I bought it off was always confused by this but I sussed it out as the same thing happened with my previous Vauxhalls, dropping oil all over the front wishbones. What I do now an all my Landies is initially clean all ariound the front diff, then when I change the oil, I cover the top of the diff with tinfoil, shaped at the side to funnel any drips into a tray. This works perfectly and no more leaks smile
I hope this helps you find your cause.

Thanks for the reply mate.
That does sound like a feasable explanation. However, as i have cleaned it off a few times it can't still be the residual drips coming from when the oil filter was changed, can it!!!!
But to be honest i was wondering if it is a common thing for them to leak from a particular place The sump bolt is always wet. ( but it is tight) There is another bolt, i think it's the diff? Which is wet as well. But i can't tell if it's leaking or it's as a result of the oil being thrown around.
Will start with a new bolt and washer from the dealer and see if it makes a difference.
Any other offers?
Cheers.
