I don't think the 'sports' designation makes much difference, but FWIW my 1999 3.0SE Auto averaged about 26mpg, maybe a little over 30mpg on long runs.

The wife's 4.2 gets 26mpg for the whole week (commuting, shopping, errands, family visits etc) and did 35mpg on a 200 mile trip earlier this year (obeying speed limits smile ).

I have an S-Type 4.2 V8. Today I've driven from Falmouth in Cornwall to mid Surrey, 270 miles, via the A30, A303 and M3 mostly, in 4 1/2 hours at a reasonably rapid speed in the pouring rain without thinking of MPG. I reckon I've got about 23 on this trip.

Just for completeness my 3.0 manual gets about 22 round town and 35 on a long run when being good and no traffic. So that's between 300 and 480 miles per tank.

Is your 2.7D manual?

Mine is auto and I get an average of 35 mpg (what the book says), and 40 mpg on a long steady motorway run.

My Euro 4 auto has never bettered 35MPG overall & neither did the previous Euro 3 one. I managed 42MPG a little while ago driving on the M4 like a saint at 65MPH!

I had the 2.7 D 2005 pre DPF and apart from a turbo going I liked it but as I only do a few miles it was wasted on me and I wish I had gone for the V8. The big Petrols cars are also cheaper so take that into account,

Mine likewise - the difference between in town driving and motorway consumption is dramatic.
