Seen quite a few recently and just wondered how they 'work' legally?

The most recent was on a 'murdered out' Bentley GT, looked ok.

I thought this was for old cars only? Prior to a certain date? Was the Bentley illegal?

Idle curiosity really.

This from the MOTuk website

"Vehicles first registered before 1 January 1973 may have registration plates displaying white, grey or silver characters on a black background."

Not on the Bentley but do the MOD still use black plates?

Could be from Guernsey, as these still have the black plates.

Vehicles used in the field that are also road legal wear silver/black plates, although things like the RLC and RN bomb disposal teams and other domestic use vehicles wear standard colour plates, albeit with the MoD numbering system (Letter,Letter Digit,Digit Letter,Letter IIRC).
