GV - GEARBOX Update Please
Discussion
Picked up the gearbox from CTS Transmissions last Monday. It was in a poor state judging by their final bill. The box required a full rebuild costing £545.00 including oil. I laboured over the cost justifying the 18 month unlimited mileage warranty that came with it plus the fact it was slightly cheaper than buying a similar unit from Rimmer Bros which has had the same work done. There was another thought about buying a recon unit from the 'bay but decided against that due to not knowing what the recon really consisted of if you know what I mean.
The box goes back in once I get a new clutch fork to go with the new clutch kit. I haven't decided yet whether to join it to the engine and drop it in as one unit or separately due to the limited movement and height that might be needed when using a long reach engine crane....

The word 'reconditioned' gearbox or engine is wide open as far as the law is concerned. I had a dispute with a garage a few years ago, to cut a long story short, 'reconditioned' could mean a good clean up and a lick of paint. Nothing new inside or even checked over. So you done good not to go that route, unless you go down it with your eyes wide open Gassing Station | Wedges | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
