PS3 3.41 Jailbreak
Discussion
Ok, well I won an auction for a PS3 with 3.41 firmware on Ebay last night. It has a broken Blu-Ray drive but I can fit a new one.
I'll update this thread when I get it working if anyone is arsed.
Let me just clarify my intention is not to play pirated games, nor advocate anyone else doing so.

I have some experience of this. What do you want to know?
Well, I've done a bit of reading around and so far think this is pretty much the way it works:- Boot off a USB device containing the necessary tools to JB (I'll be using an Android phone hopefully)
- Complete the JB
- I can then ftp content to the PS3 and run it from the hard disk, and also backup my own games onto the HD and play from there.

What is your plan, rent the games and store them?
No sir, not at all. I will purely use it to backup my own games so that I don't have to keep using the discs. I wouldn't do anything that demonic, I would get a torrent of abuse.

- Firstly, I'd scrap the idea of using an Android phone. I started off this way (after running Android on my Xperia X1) and it's somewhat a pain in the arse. Also, you'll left behind on Hex updates whilst you wait for someone to port the latest hex.
- Secondly, you'll want to install a Hex to it. Hermes v4b is currently the best. There's also a modified version that allows access to PSN again. Give it a few days and there'll probably be an official Hermes hex including that hack.
- Once you have your JB device with installed hex you'll need to do the switch off / unplug at mains, press and hold power, followed by pressing eject thing every time you boot the PS3 in order to run the exploit. Once this is done you can just exit back to the dash to load other games.
- Once your exploit is up and running you'll want to install some software via a USB stick (formatted to FAT32). Blackbox FTP 1.2 for ftp'ing and Gaia Manager 1.3+ (I think it's on version 1.3.3 now) for game management.
FTP'ing over wireless is painfully slow. I suggest using a wired connection.
HTH
Some points I missed.
1. When you do the kill power, hold standby button, press eject, make sure the drive is empty. It beeps three times when it works.
2. You need to have an original (any will work) game disc in the drive in order to run games off the HDD. I usually insert one after loading up Gaia Manager. There is a discless mode in Gaia Manager but at this stage it's still a bit tempremental, some games work fine, others don't.
