Why did the Veyron struggle so much against the Macca F1? Did the Dubai heat have an impact on its turbos?

RH said he stuffed the start, he also mentioned it got bogged down due the 4WD.

Mclaren F1 = 550bhp per tonne, Veyron 440bhp per tonne. . . . . .

Proper gear box + no traction control = quicker off the line.

Because it's TV IMO.

The Veyron would leave the F1 for dead on that road, all that torque and 4WD means the F1 wouldn't see which way it went in the real world.

It's torque which provides acceleration. Any idea on the respective specs of that?

Doesn't matter which is faster, F1 gets my vote.

Quite.

The Veyron is a little - let's say - common compared to the McLaren.

Veyron - 1250
F1 - 651

Effective running weights (exclusive of driver) would have been roughly 1250 for F1 and 2050 for Bug.
It's also going to depend on the torque curves, frontal areas, coefficients of drags, tyres, and driver skill - assuming that one cares in the least about this nonsense.

I understand that an F1 would be difficult to get off the line well, but I would have thought (from my ignorant perspective having not driven one) that in the bug you just push the accelerator and accelerate away.

Edited because I somehow managed to miss spell 'F1'.

Launch control wasn't used so the car bogged down off the start line. Heat would have also had some impact.

Wasn't there a rumour going round that the Veyron vs F1 was staged, and the F1 was actually the quicker of the two?

Top Gear? I've never seen more staged and badly edited drag races.

They remind me of Days of Thunder rolleyes

Would you like to rethink that? up to a reasonable speed (ie 200 mph) the F1 car is far faster

Alonso won the world championship in a 2000bhp/tonne car
veyron? 400/500 bhp/tonne (haven't bothered to check exact figure due to rage at your absurd comment)

ignoring torque (lack of which obviously make F1 cars REALLY slow) and driver ability there is absolutely no contest. Seriously, too many people listened to Shelby when he made his power sells car torque wins races comment.

A 2 tonne VW against the pinacle of racing cars?

McLaren F1 as per the video, not an F1 car.
Perhaps checking that before you post! wink
