Disconnect or not?

No idea where to post this so here it is!
My wife's Smart Brabus Roadster needs a battery charge. Di I need to disconnect the battery from the car to do this (thereby losing all settings etc) or is it OK just to charge in situe>

Thanks guys. I'm sure I've done it befoe without any problem but someone put a bit of doubt in my mind saying that you could damage some of the electronics by charging in situe as the battery voltage goes up. From my knowledge of lead-acid batteries (14 years in the submarines!) they are self regulating and you cannot exceed the full charge voltage per cell.
