Vixen S3 Wiring
Discussion
I've just been checking the wiring out whilst the dash was off. To my surprise I realised that it's been wired in reverse i.e. a direct positive goes from the battery to the light switch, ignition switch etc. Then the earth goes from the switch through the fuse box. I assume this is not a standard TVR'ism but rather a rewire'ism by someone. Anyone know any reason for doing this?

If I understand you correctly, what you describe is in line with the wiring diagram for my 1975M.
Ign. and light switch plus part of fuse box directly fed from the pos. battery terminal.
Ign. switch posn 1 and 2 feeds the rest of fuse box and then to various items.
A simple safety 'fix' I have seen is a fused distribution box directly off the battery terminal or a large in line fuse as per the later cars.

David,
That sounds the same as what you describe - a permanent live feed to the light & ignition switches. However, if I check for a voltage at the fuse box, there is no power there until either the light switch or ignition is 'on'. There seems to be no direct feed to the fusebox which could explain why the hazzards don't work. The interior light has been discontected at some point in it's past which is why I started looking at the wiring in the first place.
Sounds like this setup may be a TVR'ism then! As you say, inserting an additional fuse on the battery feed side would be a very sensible approach.

Steve, what you might see as the purple (Purple,purple/white, purple black) system of the loom (permanent live ..horn,hazards, interior lights and cigar lighter) would be sourced from the starter solenoid and are un-fused on that loom. I add the Griffith/Chimaera 125 durite mega ceramic to the system.
