Your first Ferrari
Discussion
Hi Forum,
I've been lusting after a Ferrari since I was roughly 6, and have been seriously looking at 355's and 360s in the last few months. I've quickly come to the conclusion that although I can buy one, I can't afford a good one, or afford to run one if I got one anyway - so plan on back foot for the now.
However, I came accross this in the classifieds:
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2164273.htm
now I was lucky enough to know an F40 owner when I was a younger man - and I honestly can't tell the difference between that car and the real thing - especially the interior. If I was to get something like this, do you think I'd be able to be as proud of achieving my goal as a 6 year old (to own a Ferrari some day), or will it be a few cylanders short?

- time to edit - This was meant to be tongue in cheek. The "f40 rep" is an abortion. I struggle to understand 355 reps, never mind a rep of one of the most iconic cars ever concieved.**

Are you being serious? I don't think you are but just wanted to check
That F40 replica is horrendous, sorry if you are being serious, but just because it's fashioned in a vaguely similar style to an F40 do you really think you'd think "I've done it!" driving around in that?
John.

Even though I am SURE you are messing around.. In all honesty, if you can't tell the difference between this abomination and an F40, it's time to give up aspirations of super car ownership. Take a few notes off of the top of your Ferrari fund and pop into an optometrist, quickly.
The car that had the misfortune to have this kit stuck on it is infinitely better left as is. Christ these things make my blood boil. They take a solid car and ruin it by turning it into a horrendous, mis-proportioned, badly detailed disgrace on wheels. That someone took time from their one life on earth to make this is baffling. That someone would choose to own, let alone drive this, is beyond a mystery.
It's not even a Ferrari replica because it doesn't replicate the F40, at all. The F40 simply doesn't look like that. I imagine not one single panel is to scale. I'd rather own a Ferrari destined for the scrap yard as it would probably be worth more in parts. LEARN the basic history of Ferrari, learn the cars, learn what they require to stay strong, save a little more THEN look into buying.
I hear a faint rustling and I think it might be the entire FMLB board rolling up their sleeves to get stuck into this thread. Run for cover!!

All in good jest as I assume this is a wind up.
Lol,
I clearly posted this in the wrong forum - in the Lounge, it'd have been interpreted as intended (I hope).
Yes, I have aspirations of Ferrari ownership. No, I don't think, for 1 second, that the car i linked to is anything other than an abortion. The MR2 is a decent car, why sticker it up to be anything else? Why would anyone thing a 4 pot turbo'd mid priced car is similar to one of the most iconic, and groundbreaking supercars in history? Who made that exhaust? Were they dunk?
Anyways, the sole reason I want an F car is the noise. Well, maybe the performance. If it was for the looks, I'd have a 328 =) Somehow, I doubt a 3 exit bean canned 4 pot sounds anything like a 5 valve V8...

Some people cant afford, and never will be able to afford these cars. Its not for us to criticise anyone if they buy a replica. If it makes the buyer feel good, whats the problem. A little less judgement is needed. Just feel lucky you have done well and own the real thing.
Oh I don't own a Ferrari, but I will "look down" on anyone who has a replica. It's just not a thing I understand, why have a fake of something?!?!? .Well let me put it this way. I have a cat, if I were to paint it orange with black stripes and tell everyone I had a Tiger, how do you think I would look
?
If you are being serious, most replicas look absolutely terrible in real life and are no comparison to the real thing! It's kind of like a blow up doll, it may look like a porn star but you know deep down you're never going to have as much fun with it.
Save your money and get the real thing

I agree, I was totally wrong in my last post. I blame the Cobra. Save your money and get the real thing

You have been here 2 years, Shirley you know what responses you WILL get.
I'm disappointed that I have even justified this thread with a response
Why anybody would buy something like that, I simply have no idea.
This is the Lamborghini, ferrari, maserati, bugatti section of pistonheads, please refrane from being a sheep, show a little class. It is 'Surely' not 'Shirley'. 'Shirley' was never really that amusing or funny in the first place.I'm disappointed that I have even justified this thread with a response

I must admit I thought the OP was serious
Even though I'm in no position to buy a Ferrari yet (worrying first about upgrading to a larger house with a proper garage to keep it in!), I couldn't ever justify buying a replica. The sole point of a replica is surely to fool other people into thinking you do own the real thing. Imagine what a prize t
t you'd look when the fakery is exposed.

"horrendous, mis-proportioned, badly detailed disgrace on wheels"

Coupled with the photographs of this monstrosity, and the fact that the seller offers the price of a 'real' F40 to highlight what a bargain the car is, has had me rolling around.
