E60 5 Series iDrive question
Discussion
I went to test drive a 530d this afternoon. Upon startup the iDrive gave a warning that a puncture had been detected. When I questioned this, the dealer (an indy) said this sometimes happens when the car has been stood for a few days. Is this true or Billy bulls
t? He mentioned it is to do with the ABS.
The car is a 2006 530d M Sport with an auto gearbox.

Mine gave all sorts of warnings - generally they were accurate though, provided I'd rememebered to reset it when I checked the tyre pressures.
Presuming it's on run-flats which won't allow you to tell visually whether the tyre pressure's low, take your free Bridgestone tyre gauge along and check. You can get a puncture in a run-flat repaired but you will spend *ages* trying to find a garage who'll do it.

I did some reading up and apparently rough roads and sudden bumps can affect the readings. It is rectified by resetting the tyre pressure warning settings through the idrive. How common a problem is this?
I've had it on previous cars where I've been warned of irregular tyre pressures through pumping them up.

You have to reset the tyre pressure warning system if you change the pressures.
What there are a lot of is.cracked rims due to the force exerted changing run flats.
I have been told all sorts of tosh by salesmen trying to sell a car, believe it at your peril.
My tyre pressure warning system has been fine with run flats and normal tyres.
Hth.

A warning coming up when the car is started means it wasn't reset the last time it happened as the warning will only initially trigger when on the move. I have had one or two false alarms and one correct alarm (nail puncture meaning the tyre was down about 8 psi) in 3 years on conventional tyres. As others have said the pressures should be checked first before blaming the ABS. And I'm fairly sure the car is smart enough to know the difference between an ABS sensor that reads a different wheel speed than the rest (indicating a puncture) and an ABS sensor that's giving erratic or missing speed readings (indicating a possible sensor or wiring fault).

Warning:- run flat related question!
On my 535D with 245x18 run flats, do I need to change anything else if I elect to go the non-run flat route i.e. is there anything need re-programming.. re-alignment etc?
I have the same car and made the same change. On my 535D with 245x18 run flats, do I need to change anything else if I elect to go the non-run flat route i.e. is there anything need re-programming.. re-alignment etc?
I found no need for alignment or other changes.
I did buy the space-saver spare wheel kit for the boot though (about £150) ... though I did have to convince the BMW dealer that they did have it on the parts list!
