Where have all the cylinder head porting jobs gone?

Hello all! having been a head porter for 22 years, I have not seen a porting job advertised for at least 15 years, there is still plenty of work around, & plenty of small firms around, but no jobs advertised. It seems that everyone is contracting out, and are not investing in doing work in-house as such. Does anyone know why this is?
