Hi all,

Never driven one, never even been in one, but I'm considering going after one. Are they any good? Better or worse than the V8? I'd welcome your advice, views and experiences.

all the best,

david

I want one as well so if you find one let me know!! The will be slower but more economical then a V8, but everything else should be pretty much the same spec for spec. Some of the later ones were the 'soft-dash' version which had an interior more like a Discovery. I am expecting one to be much like driving as Disco but a little more rare and therefore classy.

Hi,

I've got a factory 300 Tdi Auto soft dash. Great cars, comfy and in Rangey terms pretty economical. Performance is not terrific though especially with the auto box. I've improved the performance of mine by removing the cat and making sure the EGR system is working correctly. Rumour has it an allisport intercooler will improve it further.

Well worth having, I wouldn't be without mine, but it may not be for you if you like quick cars.

Cheers,

Mike

Looks very nice. I would be tempted by a manual one if one came up at the right price. I'm used to a Discovery so know the speed limitations smile

ERM.

Is that a respary or did you get that mopped from the original colour. Paint finish look absolutely sublime in that photo. Wondering whether a mop will bring mine up like that...

Had a couple of these, bought my first one brand new in 1993. Montpellier red with aircon. My first ever 'new' car.
Previously had a 3.5 auto, and found it much better on fuel, was very good to drive, swapped it after 2yrs for a soft dash se auto 300tdi.
Found both to be great cars.

Yup it's had a full respray though the colour is the original Biaritz blue it left the factory in. Not bad for a budget paint job. It had a very rotten bonnet and tailgate and damage in some form or other to pretty much every panel bar the roof as it was used as a company vehicle for an electrical engineers. I'd previously replaced the windscreen top header panel which was a bit of a faff as it's a roof off brace and weld job to do it so make sure you check for corrosion up there as the parts are only available second hand. On my car it was caused by the screen being fitted crooked because the supports had been left off when it was bonded in so every time it rained the water was gathering behind the rubber at the top of the screen.

Cheers,

mike

In Landy terms they are fine. Tdi motors are good although noisey. Expect mid 20's mpg though. I'd highly recommend spending £400 at someone like Allisport or Twisted Performance for an intercooler upgrade and tuning of the injector pump. It'll feel like you've gained 50hp and drive 10x better.

Autos will feel very sluggish stock but most are manuals.

V8's are more refined and faster, nearly all are autos though. Expect 15-17mpg with these.

HAHAHahahahahahah.

I finally bothered to work out my fuel consumption last night. From the last 4 tanks it's been worse than a Murcielago...

5.8mpg!!

Think I might need to check the fuel lines again.

15mpg! Ha! Mine (V8) was doing 6mpg the other week, but has had a service since then.

TBH, I've never driven the 300 TDi, but the 3.9 V8 isn't a 'quick' car either!!
