Washers - Help Please

My windscreen washers have stopped working. It appears that the hose must have come away from the jets as it seems to dump the fluid somewhere behind the dash. Good thing is it not coming into the footwell.

I've looked in the bible and it says that the dash has to come out. Anyone had this problem and can offer any advice?

Steve, where exactly does the fluid leak from ?? Can you see it dripping down the back of the engine bay ?? I would suspect, if you're not getting fluid in the footwell, the pipe's become disconnected behind the plenum cover, where the wipers are mounted.

It is leaking from somewhere behind the plenum - can't see exactly where though. I also can't find any access to where the pipe attaches to the jets. The bible says that you have to go in behind the dash - which sounds a difficult job and likely to cause further damage if you don't know what you're doing. I was hoping someone could say they'd had this problem and just do ...... or best not try and take it to a dealer.

I've had a look at my car this morning and the grille/plenum cover is only riveted on along the windscreen edge, the other edge just has a plastic finisher on it. The rivets may not be visible as the windscreen seal may cover them. In my opinion, removing this would be easier than attempting to remove the dash. You'd probably only need to partly remove it to see if the jets are connected to their tubes.

Ive done this job on mine, not to bad if the pipe is still going through the bulkhead. Its best to re-plumb the whole thing rather than try and fish around and re-connect. You will have to remove the blades and drop the wiper mechanism down so that you can get a bent coat hanger or similar into the driver side wiper hole. From here you should be able to locate the pipe coming through the bulkead and pull it out through the hole. Once out cut the pipe fit a T connector and a new peice of pipe to run to each washer jet, then simply feed to the other side using the coat hangar, cut to length and voila. Hope this helps

the easiest way is to use a ring cutter to cut some nice neat holes, in the front of the bulkhead in the engine bay, one each side to gain access etc. An then fit a chasis bung to the hole afterward. it grants easy access next time..
