chim outriggers

does anyone know where i can get my outriggers replaced in surrey, im based in blackwater.
also ive been quoted £600 a pair fitted and vat included by my macanic, mind you that was about 4 months ago. i just dont know if that sounds right as ive seen many different prices on these forums.
any help would be great.

That sounds very cheap Shaun. I'd want to make sure he has done plenty before, and would need to understand how he does it. Will he be cutting the body tub? Use the PH search facility, as there has been lots written on this. At 60k miles, I may have mine done after this winter as preventative maint.

Safe as in the body not breaking? Probably.Safe as in would I drive it and/or put a loved in it? No.
The seat belt inertia reel relies on outrigger integrity, therefore they are paramount in safety.

I'd suggest David knows what he is doing and is able to quote that low due to his situation. The outriggers are only a few lengths of tube and knowing what the actual material cost is it is easily possible to do them for that price.I had mine done by a local engineer/mechanic and paid about £850. This was the first one he had completed although I had seen other jobs he has done and was impressed by his work. From what I can gather he has done 2 more since and was going to charge slightly more due the time it had taken so I probably paid under what you would expect.. The main points I picked up were that it's apparently impossible to weld the centre tubes fully with the body in situ. Also from what I can gather although it's relatively time consuming I don't think it's rocket science so I wouldn't automatically go for a Tvr specialist, especially when as quoted above you will be paying probably in the region of 1k more.

Front and Back? So does this mean he leaves the middle section untouched?
I gave David a ring today to have a word about this. It's not actually him that's going to do it but another company local to him. Including vat and parts the price is around £750 all in front and back for 3 days works. I quized him about why so cheap and the reply was basicly high demand equals low price.

I did get a quote of around £750 for just replacing the cross pieces that go across the front wheel arch. Was tempted for a while but eventually decided to have it done properly. Was very glad I did because when the middle sections were taken out the tops of the tubes were completely rotted away. I gather this is typical and yet it is well-nigh invisible with the outrigger on the car.
To do a decent job is about 3 1/2 days work by a skilled person who knows what they are doing and has done it before. If they are 'only' charging £750 then this represents less than £30 per hour fully loaded cost. The cost of the material is negligible. I don't know about David's 'situation' but I'd like to understand why a fully skilled man is charging so little for his services.
