A mate of mine was on holiday in Majorca in August, and has just received a speeding ticket (presumably via the hire company). He wasn't aware of being flashed, and certainly wasn't pulled over. The ticket is now 5 months old. Should he pay it? Is it outside of a statute of limitations? What's the deal here? Has he got away with it? Any advice gratefully received.

Just send them a dog, sure that will deal with them!

Might be a good idea not to use the same hire car company in Spain though. Big brother is getting bigger wherever you are now.

I suspect there would have been something in the rental agreement about the 'renter' accepting responsibilty for all fines etc whilst vehicle in his/her custody, and if a credit card was used, he may well find a deduction taken that way eventually.

Hi I found this post via Google as I was trying to gain information myself as I have received a €300 fine for speeding in Menorca.

I found this thread the most useful : http://www.myspain.es/forum/motoring-spain/22342-p...

It's in English (British Expats in Spain site by the looks of it)

The general gist of it is it's probably best to cough up, especially if you plan on ever returning to Spain as there are stories on there about Brits being stopped and charged for non payment when they land in Spain or get stopped by the police for a different matter.

Hope this helps.
