Bought a Shogun a few weeks ago. Now I've driven it a bit, the auto box seems a bit slow to take up drive sometimes. For instance, pulling away it seems to be quite leisurely unless you give it a bootful once it's into second at which point it seems to engage and then works OK. Once moving it seems OK, shifts between gears OK.

Question is, is this just a symptom of the ATF needing changed? Level is right on the halfway mark between min and max but there's no evidence that it's ever been changed and it's nearly at 80k miles now.

Personally, before going any further, i'd do an auto fluid & strainer change. Dexron III fluid isn't a million dollars so worth the expense IMO.

Start with fluid & filter change & see what happens.
Blocked/obstructed filter will often give the symptoms you describe.
