The lure of HD and PS3 gaming on a large screen has finally reached the point where I've taken the plunge and gone for a plasma.

The problem now is what the heck do I do with my old Toshiba 36ZP38B that still looks great, sounds good and has nothing wrong with it?

I don't need it (or have room for it), none of my friends or family want it, they aren't selling for much on eBay but it's working perfectly, the DFS module has been replaced (common issue), it's all in one piece and should have a good life left in it.

So what do you do with your old CRT when you've shunned it without it doing anything wrong? Should I be this attached to a piece of electrical equipment and need to know it's going to be looked after?

Are there any charities that pass this kind of thing on to needy families? (Jeremy Kyle suggest those on benefits already have HD flat panels)

It really is a great TV, the best non-HD picture I've seen on any TV - it just lacks HDMI, HD etc so it's time to move on.

You could offer it to Freecycle

Obviously as the name implies, you would be giving it away.

But better for someone else to get use out of it, rather than end up in landfill.

My last set went to Freecycle but the experience scared me a little, it was like I'd invited the Jeremy Kyle show into my house - might be worth a go though I guess smile

Bedroom TV, my old 32" Sony was worth around 23p so took it upstairs and dumped on top of a chest of drawers.
(Never actually watch TV in bed but if i'm ever ill will be appreciated and only takes up dead space).

I'm not sure the floor upstairs could take it and I don't fancy trying to get it up the stairs smile

I wasn't sure what the rules were with regards to advertising in the Lounge, even when giving something away - might be worth a shot though.

Gave my old CRT to one of my mates grandmother, she was chiffed to bits coming from a prehistoric Ferguson 21" 4x3 to a 32" widescreen Panasonic biggrin

That's the kind of thing I'd like to do but I have no friends and most of my family has passed away, note to self, watch less TV and go out more often smile

My Brother in Law (on his own) carried the very same set up 4 flights of steps & suffered a slipped disc !

The British Heart Foundation might be an option for passing it on (or wait 25 years until it becomes retro !)

how the hell did he get his arms around that!???

60kgs I seem to recall, but I couldn't get my arms around mine.

My old one is currently en route to Africa, the neighbour wanted it - I like to imagine a whole tribe sitting around it watching eastenders outside their mud hut.

Unfortunately I think the reality is it will be stripped for parts and left on a dump to pollute the local area frown

This.

Just make sure you don't give it to the first person to reply. There are people who sit on that all day waiting for the good stuff. They then flog it on Gumtree for £30 or £40.

I made this mistake with an old knackered laptop. 10 minutes after i'd given it away some chap who runs a club for youngsters asked, in a very polite manner, if he could use it for his club but it was gone.

If it's a good CRT you'd be surprised what people will pay. Have a look on the gaming websites (ntsc-uk, retrogamer) as a lot of people like CRT screens for old consoles (Megadrive and SNES look rubbish on an LCD screen).
Good CRTs are getting quite rare these days, for example this CRT monitor looks like it will go for a tidy sum

Failing that gumtree is a good hassle free option
