Retrofitting trip computer to 2005 Fiesta

As per the title, has anyone done this? I'm assuming that manufacturers use the same wiring loom on all models to keep costs down so it may be a case of buying a new stalk with the computer buttons on, plugging something and telling ECU that it's there?
