Hi
thinking about changing cars again!!!!!
I have about £13k to get a car, cant make my mind up as the convertble or tin top but a couple of questions.
is the normal car 3 seats in the back & soft top 2 ??
Is there less room in the back of soft tops? (have kids so will have to use the back for short journeys!!)
Do they all do open & closure on key fob?
Are the sat navs worth having?
The smgs i have read all the bits on here about pros & cons, I would like smg but have been told, as i can only afford a 60k ish milage one either go manual or get warranty? Can i get warranty on one if the person i buy of has not got it?
I like the luna seca blue but not sure about the leather colour? will this be hard one to sell on?
cheers for any help guys?
Also like the s4 audi 4.2 , dont suppose anyone had both???

Hi mate,
I currently own an E46 m3 convertible and they are only 2 seats in the back whereas the coupe is 3 in the back. Not as much room in the back then but ample for 2 adults so 2 kids is no problem.

As far as im aware they all have open/closure on the key fob (mine does).

Mine dosent have sat nav so cant really comment on how good they are, dont have much use for it myself but i wouldnt let that have any influence over a potential purchase.

Ive heard issues about smg reliability and maybe at the age and mileage you are looking at,a manual might be a better option as warrantys can be quite expensive and on a car of that value seems like a waste of money.Mines a manual, has covered 70k miles, owned nearly 4 yrs and a warranty is something ive never felt the need for as it feels like it will go on forever.

Laguna seca blue is not too everyones taste though im sure selling on wont be a problem as there will also be people like yourself who like it.Have you ever seen one in the metal though? The colour never looks the same to me as it does in the pictures for some reason.

Hope this helps

There's quite a bit less room in the back of the convertible - the seat backs are very upright, so I wouldn't want to put adults in the back for any distance because they'd be uncomfortable.

The soft top opens remotely from the fob but doesn't close remotely.

So less room, will bear that in mind!Maybe a saloon will be better then.
thanks for help

Only Coupe or Convertible - no saloon, I am afraid.

I've had both coupe and convertible E46's and the rear room isn't vastly different between the two. Convertible feels smaller in the back due to the smaller windows. As for the SMG gearbox, I have it in mine and wouldn't have it any other way. It's very much down to the individual though, I'd advise taking a decent testdrive in both. Remember that you only hear about problems on the internet, people won't bother to write a post saying how reliable their gearbox has been.
You can have the key programmed to open and close the roof from the remote. You have to stand quite close to the car though, and keep the button pressed until it's opened/closed. Just as easy to do it whilst still sat in the car.

You'd not want to be in the centre seat of a coupe for very long.

Yes i have looked on all the old posts so did not want to bore everyone with smg/ manual spill! Shame as i really want smg & i know what you are saying about "you dont hear about good ones" but onl trouble is i have enough to run /mantain a nice car within reason, but dont know how big a bill for smg trouble would be? I wonder what the most miles on any one of these smg is the highest on here? would be good topic!
cheers for help on soft top coupe bit, what did you prefer?
cheers Ian

Sat nav is pretty terrible imo...it's had a literal 95% failure rate at getting me LOST at least once on the trip...it does make the centre console look a lot nicer but it's pretty lame. I've only recently started to use the directions screen instead of the map one and I got to my destination correctly withtout getting lost.

Sat Nav helps keeop the residuals up.

SMG has been fine on my one. 53k mile start, has about 58k odd now, no issues with it.

Leguna Seca Blue : looks the best imo, but it's a very individual colour choice and not to everyones tastes. I insisted on that or gun metal grey and red leather, and thats not to everyones taste either, but it looks great imo.

S4...don't get it! :P

gunmetal & red, i might as well buy yours! niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!
why no to s4? see a softer version of m3, not bad for road use it seems?
