I`ve had my pre serp griffith for about 8 years now, recently i have bought a sprintex superchargher which was alledgely off a 400sx, having done a little research there are only a couple of them and only a few more of 350sx so i assume its probibaly of a range rover conversion. There are quite a few issuse to sort out before bolting it on! ~Bigger injectors, new ecu (emerald, mega squirt, etc). I would appricate your comments/pics/help, i am currently stripping the supercharger, at the moment all looks well, bit oily, rotor tips not worn, however i`m not sure what they should look like! Supercharging knowledgeable people can you help?

Nearly bought that on ebay the first time. I pulled out because there was doubt whether it could flow enough air for anything bigger than a 4 litre. Worth checking that out before you start pulling things apart. 'Chedder' on here is the man to speak to, he's done his own conversion with distributor-less ignition. thumbup

I run the S102 on my 4.0 SX. At full chat the supercharger runs out of breath a little at the top end, above 4500 rpm up to 5300 (top end - because the blower is spinning at its maximum) the boost drops to around 4.5 psi from 6.0 peak (around 3000 rpm).

So I would say that it will work with a 4.3 albeit slightly lower boost because the engine is gobbling more air, you'll definitely get a substantial horsepower increase and also plenty more low end torque.

I'd like to see some pics of the S102 internals, please email me. The bearings are what you need to pay the most attention to. And I agree about the vintage of your blower, it's a DPR one but not 400SX.

One last thing - the blower does seem to get quite hot with use, I regularly see 90-100C intake charge temperature into the engine, and I'm sure some of that is the blower getting warm and then warming the air (more than just the compression warming effect). So wherever you site it, make sure it gets cold air to the outside of the blower casing, you might want to consider some mild water injection too.

Have you considered what to do with the compression ratio?

Thanks to you all for responses and pic.

I am stripping the super charger but cant get the main shaft fastner off at the moment, any ideas? will take some pics once its apart.

As for cooling it down, does a hole in the bonnet count? how does water injection fit into the system?

As for compression ratio, thickers head gaskets are an option but i am wondering if this is needed if I use an ecu such as mega squirt, and distributer less option?

Last question, what oil does it use, i assume it is a sealed system that doesnt use the engine oil.

The sprintex is a superb design .. if you have never read DPR's website .. it's well worth a read !

You could try asking Dennis Priddle.

The hole is probably a good idea, get some sort of duct to draw air in. I was thinking of water injection too, maybe a light mist before the blower, to help cool it down, and it'll mash the water into the air to boot.

Maybe not if you have a knock sensor and automatic retard.

Yes it recirculates the oil - did you get the two pipes and little reservoir with it? DP now recommends ATF and I've been using that for 30k miles. You need to top it up every 500 miles or so. Luckily I got a job lot of 8 bottles for a pound for 2 litres so I'm sorted for a while!
