Have you got any pictures? This sounds completely unacceptable and I'd be looking at taking this further.

Of the three BMW's in the household only mine has very minor signs of wear on the drivers bolster. But it's 8 years old with 180k on it!

What is it? Just sold my E61 at 104,000 miles and interior was pretty well unmarked.

My A6 is 4 years old and 80k miles and the leather looks new, even the side bolsters on the sports seats are fine. Even my Tuscan at 40k miles and 10 years old only shows a bit of wear on the drivers bolster. My wife last car a Seat Leon was 9 years old and 70k miles and the leather wasn't worn, (slightly cracked but not worn)

I think BMW have some explaining to do, unless you have things in your back pocket (keys for example) that could wear the seat, or are excessively large.

Under the sale of good act the goods have to last for a reasonable period. Most people would not consider 3000k miles in a luxury car a reasonable period IMO.

I think it needs a call to Customer Care and the suggestion that it is unreasonable for it to wear so quickly. Then if now joy, you need to ramp it up, trading standards can be helpful.

Agree with the posts above. I have had BMWs with much higher mileage than this on and the leather is hardly worn. All depends on how you get in and out of the car. Assume it is the driver's bolster which is going or is it all over? As others have said, pics needed before we can comment properly.

Are you asking for pics of the seats or of the driver so that you can determine if it's his fatness that's to blame?

I did think this as I wrote it. To clarify I'm asking for pics of the damage, and then asking if the OP is a fatty.

That is a joke response from BMW! if it was a Lada from the 80s i could understand! not a modern BMW!! Hassle them till you get a proper response!

Leather in my last E89 was showing some wear @ 5k. Also there was a dirty mark left by a mechanic and I lightly rubbed it with some cleaner and it wore that area flat.

My 8 year old Celica before had no marks at all.

All the leather in the new BMWs seems very poor quality. Had a 523i on loan and the leather really looked very cheap.

My e46 is 6 years old on 90k miles and the leather is fine. Nice matt finish, but then it's regularly looked after. Naturally there is some sign of wear, but essentially it's ok. My previous M3 was fine at just over 60k miles too. Just needs a feed and looking after with Gliptone once in a while.

If it's knackered at 3k miles, then I would suggest there is something wrong with the leather and BMW should look at it. People have had bolsters and seat bases replaced under warranty, so it shouldn't be a problem IMHO.

OP doesn't mention the model, I've heard of high wear rates on the leather for X5's just because people tend to catch the corner of the seat bolster when getting in and out.

Unless OP has had a lot of metal (studs in jeans) in contact with the seats i'd be surprised that 3000 is acceptable.

I suspect there's more to this story than the OP is telling us!.
If it was a BMW problem there would be loads of similar complaints all over the internet!.

Well the OP did say:

(BTW,I notice the OP hasn't given any details of the car, just the mileage. For all we know it could be a 1972 3.0 csi that's been sat outside with the windows all wound down and no cover since 1975!).

On the contrary, it is a well known BMW problem, especially on E8x and E6x - two common things, mainly fast wear on the exposed geometry of the seats (especially the sides on sports seats) and around the seam/stitching, the other being creasing in the bottom centre section.
