Just bought a '98 318is Coupe and the pass window doesn't work.

I can hear a clicking inside the door when the button is pressed to lower the glass, the window doesn't drop when the door is opened either.

I guess that the switch is working, hence the clicking. What is the best way to remove the door trim without busting clips etc. That normally happens with other cars?

Is the motor usually a weak point of the operation, or is it the regulator mechanism.

Cheers,

FE

Pull them gently, you need to undo 2 screws under the handle, and unclip the door pull surround by sliding it forward or back to unclip.

Then, you just have to lever out the clips with a bang. Be careful on the very top edge, often the card will come off and leave the chipboard support bit.

If you can hear clicking, the regulator is probably broken. This is available seperately from the motor but I strongly recommend using a new genuine regulator as the factor parts often do not fit, especially if you have 1 touch windows.

before you start order 10 new panel clips so when they break, at least you have them to hand to refit the door panel.

If you lay under the door, you can get a long screwdriver between the panel and the door and lever the panel off as close to the poppers as possible. You will also need to unscrew the door lock button on the top to lift the panel off. Dont just rip off any plastic sheet behind the panel because it protects the door panel from water.
