By the time you've,
a) had an expensive tow bar fitted to your car, and
b) bought a trailer to clutter up your drive all the time it's not in use
it's generally a lot cheaper and easier to buy a good groundsheet, open the car doors and chuck the rubbish in!
....or rent a van when you need one.

Ifor Williams trailers for longevity, reliability etc - but they don't come cheap. If you want a trailer for life and not for (tidying up at) Christmas, IW is the way ahead. Cheap trailers probably OK if you have a shed/garage to store but they dont like living in the rain. Indispension also good but not sure they make smaller that one-tonne models. I got some spare wheels for my off-road trailer recently from a new supplier, a site by the name of about-trailers. Seemed to have a lot on offer and when I called they were very helpful.
I was in the same position , needed a trailer for France , looked at a few , avoid the do it yourself self build kits they are just too flimsy ,
came up with DAXARA 218
The Daxara 218 is an unbraked 6' 8" x 4' 3" single axled trailer, constructed with profiled galvanised pressed steel sides and a G.V.W. of 750Kgs

Idespension , got a good deal from Southampton depot excactly as pictured with full size wheels ex showroom 700 quid all in including high top sides
so far ive used it to clear 4 gardens everyweek to the tip , and countless journeys to France

I've got a 8'x4' flat bed that is often too big so last year bought the cheapest Halfords sell, - Erde 102, as a second trailer for the smaller jobs.
Good value for money and not bad quality either. Not massive capacity but more then enough for trips to DIY store / tip - and I've always got the bigger trailer for larger / heavier items.
A friend has a 750kg 6' x 3.5' (approx) from Indespension I also use. Great trailer and excellent quality. Only problem is big and heavy so I don't bother borrowing it very often.

The range that B&Q sell are pretty decent. They look durable and have a good carrying capacity. One thing that is well worth getting with the trailer is a ladder rack at the front which makes it much more versatile for carrying stuff. Also, an all over cover that bungees down is brillant for securing stuff.
I've got one and it's very nice - a bit like an Ifor Williams without the "special" price tag.
It's German and unbelievably I cannot remember the make (will edit it in later), all galvanised, braked, huge heavy duty wheels. Was about 700 quid 6 or so years ago. Get one with a fitted tonneau.
