Has anyone bought a Tesco own brand 600ml aerosol screen de-icer? Despite the blurb on the tin saying it performs down to -15 degrees I tried it at zero degrees this morning, it was useless! Even after a good shake of the tin it still didn't work, I even suspect it made things worse.

Thanks for the feedback guys, thought it was just me. So has anyone found anything that actually works?

Has anyone returned their 'pish'to the supplier? It's not the cost but it is the principal, I'm taking mine back to Mr Tesco to alert him that it doesn't work!!

I got the big tins from Asda. Worked a treat this morning with what looked like 1/4" thick ice on the windscreen laugh Seriously though, the stuff asda sells works fine.

Why bother spending money on deicer? A jug of cool water works as well as most deicers, yet it refreezes but so do most deicers, and it does clear the screen. (dont use hot water it can crack the screen)

Having said all that, most of the time i just use a scraper

Depends where the car is kept - my neighbour does this and by the time I go out our shared drive is like an ice-rink.

Heated windscreen wink heated mirrors as well are useful.

WHSmith gift card deals with the side windows until i can find my scraper that also has a glove style cover over it so you dont get cold hands. smile

I usually forget the scraper and the nearest cd case gets used, works quite well too!! I find the spray bottles are better than the aerosol tins.

I keep mine on a block paved drive, sounds like your neighbour is using too much water. This morning 1 pint did the windscreen and 2 side windows on the A6

Any particular CD music case that you find works better than others? How about 'Break the Ice' by Britney?

Agreed, but the jag has heated mirrors and only 'quick clear sceen' , unfortunately it's only quick clear when the heater is warmed up, being a diesel that isn't too quickly!! My old Galaxy and sapphire-cossie had the electrically heated front screen, pure brilliant, took effect in seconds.

Ah, that explains the absolute twunt this morning who almost knocked me off my bike due to the sun streaming through his uncleared side windows - he must also have Tesco de-icer...

Rain-X on all glass makes scraping ice off much easier I find. I can even get away with just using the rubber part of ice-scrapers hence avoiding the potentially-damagig plastic bit smile

Now, as I understand it ice forms at anything below zero degrees C, in my book that's akin to the inside of my wifes freezer, and you ride a bike in that, bbbbrrrraaavvvee man!

I tend to find putting the windscreen wippers on at full speed( so there motion is virtually rocking the van ) whilst reving the engine vigourlsy to warm up the heaters that are on full blow pointed to the windscreen works best for me

Does fk your blades though not advisable on a non works motor

If you want to save ruining a new one you might go for an oldy like Jonny Nash "I can see clearly now"??
