Porsche Boxster rear screen
Discussion
I've recently become the (proud) owner of a 1998 Boxster. Within 2 weeks, and despite performing the "boxster chop" my rear screen has cracked.
I've tried to research the options but was wondering if I could get some help? Replacement screens seem to be £200 - £600 whilst a new hood £600 onwards. Screens come in different plastics and different colours. Is this something I need to use a main dealer for or does it not really matter.
Any advice will be gratefully received.

Hi mate, I had my rear plastic screen replaced by Jaz Porsche in Wembley NW London for £380 inc VAT. They did a great job and even gave my car a nice polish afterwards too!!! www.jazweb.co.uk
You should be able to get a new screen fitted for around £400 - ask google. I had mine done last year. So as not to fall into the same trap as I have done, check your hood for signs of wear and tear as you may need to replace it fairly shortly anyway (I have a '98 Box). the cost seems to be around £450 + VAT (£530) from the UK however you can get them in the U.S. for around £235 (due to a good exchange rate at the moment) bear in mind you might get done for VAT and excise on top of that when it comes into this country though. Still seems better value if you can stand the wait.

The rear screens are known for going milky, just like mine was.
Unfortunatley for me, I was going to use this great stuff called Hinsight reviver which clears the milky effect. However on the 1st sunny day this year (and we don't get a lot up North!) my roof had to come down. I forgot in the sheer excitment that it was only 1 degress celsius, you can guess the rest - my screen cracked into pieces, great view though!

I often used to whizz around with the top down in my MX-5 when it was seriously sub-zero. How annoying is it to wait till it hits the magic five degrees.
Mind you, it's about the only downside to the Boxster.
My rear screen looks like it's not going to be with us for many more years, despite religious chops. Damn I wish I had a glass rear screen

Having done some more phoning around (including from advice given above - thanks) I have again been advised to get a new hood instead of replacing the screen.
How long can I expect my original hood to last? If I do replace it do I need to get one from an approved Porsche place?
BTW - Fablon is doing a good job of keeping the rain out while I fail to make a decision!
