Quick question for you all,

I'll be travelling from t'North to that there big city of London at the weekend for my sisters wedding. Hotel is booked for us (EC4M 7DR), reception and service is Trafalgar Square-ish.

Where would be the best place to leave the car (at home maybe?) Any reasonably priced parking near the hotel from Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon?

Thanks in advance!

1. Call your hotel
2. NCP website
3. Consider parking at, say, North Acton and tube/training it in from there

When my brother and I used to drive to London, we would park at Elstree & Borehamwood as it was close to the M1 and also the furthest station out for which you could buy a London day rover. Worked quite well.

As already mentioned leave it at the tube station, parking is only a couple of quid at the weekends. Stanmore (Jubilee) is just off J4 of the M1 and Finchley central (Northern) J2. Just check the tube closures as the Jubilee is often closed for work.

In the City of London there is quite a bit of free on-street parking at weekends from 1pm on Saturday - just look at the metered bays for details of restrictions. Alternatively you can park in the underground car park at the Barbican centre for £6.50 a day at weekends:
http://www.barbican.org.uk/visitor-information/car...
That's about a 15 minute walk from that postcode and quite a pleasant walk if you go past St.Bartholomews Church in Smithfield.

I wouldn't bother with the Tube except maybe to get from the hotel to the reception (cab would be better)- driving into London is easy at the weekends and that is usually the time when TFL decide to close tube lines for engineering works.

yes

Don't do what I did last time I was in central London and pour a small fortune into the meter before realising its free on weekends.

The parking at Banyard House on Queen Victoria Street is a couple of minutes walk away and is dead easy to get to from the embankment/thames street.

Some very useful advice here - many thanks! I'm liking the idea of parking close by rather than leaving it outside London and catching the train / tube in.

Oooh, that's the place near my office.

When I had a car I used to park it in Clapham, and then either cycle or Tube from there. But that's because I live in Clapham. smile

On a more serious note, weekends in the "City" meaning the Financial bit, which is where your hotel is, will be very easy to park in, and shouldn't be too much trouble to drive into either.

Get a cab to the wedding too, so much classier...

Have a look into the City of London's own car parks (e.g. one in Commercial St/White's Row in E1) - from memory weekend parking is cheap.

However, wherever you park, leave absolutely NOTHING in the car. Preferably leave your (empty) glovebox open and, for example, make sure there's no mark on your windscreen from a sat nav suction cup.

Don't listen to 'em Slimrick, they're leading you on a wild goose chase and are just winding you up.

We've got special parking slots for our luverly friends from the nawf all round lunnern. You can easily spot these parkin areas, there's pretty yellow lines painted on the road speshlee for you tourists. If you're from really farsands of miles up norf, like like Leicester or Forest, oops I mean Nottingham, then there's even speshulier spots marked wiv double yeller lines. Yup, 'ard to belive innit? we've marked 'em wiv TWO lines just for you. Just leave your car parked on the dubbles as we call'em and the jobs a good un. Luvverly jubbly.

Also we don't have no crime darn 'ere like wot you norvern monkeys are used to, so don't bovver locking yer car and just leave all yer stuff on the back seat and someone'll look after it for you and keep their eye on it for you.

Us suvverners and speshly us lunnerners really do like tourists, and we really really like those who go out of their way to ejucate us and tell us how things are done back 'ome where they come from. The only issue you might find is if your one of them jox or geordies, could you make sure you bring a translator wiv you 'cos we're not all fluent in norvern langwidges.

We'll all be wavin at you when you get darn 'ere so make sure you wave back. We like you to remind us how many World Wars you norveners have won for us so just wave 2 fingers in the air at us all to remind us.

Last thing, if you've got time try to make sure you pop in to either number 10 or Buck house for a cuppa. Dave at 10 and Liz at Buck ouse would be only too happy to put you up if yer hotel's a bit rank.

Hope this helps and we're all countin the hours till we see you.

Ha, its not bad I live next to it! its £14 a day and some for the night i believe, there is a cheaper one on brick lane which goes good rates and it has 24 hour security.

Awesome help - is there somewhere to tie my whippet while I pop in for a pint of mild? I'm assuming I can take my ferret into most places with me, oop North most shops leave bowls of milk for the little blighters on the counters.

I lived across from it for a few years smile. We borrowed a car one time which got its radio nicked while parked there, and then had the polycarbonate replacement window smashed that same night so they could rifle around in the boot to see if there was anything they missed the first time....

I would definitely still use the car park, but would make it obvious there's nothing in the car to finance the next crack hit.

There's also a pub across the road where one can get a pint of bitter with one's whippet. wink

You should be fine parking it in the Barbican - it's a concert venue with 24-hour security so doesn't attract the usual chancers.

Complete the postcode and dates section on this website

http://en.parkopedia.co.uk/parking/ec4m_7dr/

and it'll give you all the options.

Car parks will charge you for every hour, meters go free in the city at 13:30 on Saturday.

Best bet is as has already been stated - park at a convenient tube or overground station as you approach London. Kind of depends on what you are parking. Most of the city streets are pretty safe.

If you are heading to Trafalgar Sq just park it in Haymarket Sq, plenty of free parking there at the weekends.
