We did head to Silverstone, isn't that the North? 
It's been said many times that we do attempt to head outside of the M25, and there are a few plans for 2011 too, but most free spaces (with 500+ spaces) are owned by manufacturers and a large proportion of those are based in the South.
These spaces work for us as they have a motoring element, good content to see, toilets and food already in place and staff on hand to marshal. Best of all is that the manufacturer and PH has something to gain from the events and therefore we do not incur hire fees, which means we can keep them free.
Expect some more accessible locations (for you) next year, but not too many planned for the 'real' North I'm afraid, and by that I mean Yorkshire and above.
