Hi all, long story short.

Rolling road man said ecu probably faulty, as he couldnt tune my car.

Bought second hand one. Now when i turn ignition on, the fuel pump runs
for 2 ish seconds then cuts out, fit old and pump runs continuous, as it should.

I know i can wire pump direct to ignition, but would rather do it in the ecu,
if anyone knows how lol.

Also can you see any other problems i might get with replacing tvr ecu with what
is probably a ford spec granada one.

Ps, this sounds complicated, so, any replies in one syllable words please biggrin

Hi,

On my S2, the fuel pump runs for about 1-2 sec when the ignition is switched on, presumably to pressurise the system, then stops. This is normal, I assume that the ECU monitors the fuel rail pressure and pulses the fuel pump on/off as needed by controlling the yellow relay in the harness below the glove box.

When running, can't hear if the pump is pulsing or not ears

Yep mine too - turn ignition on, fuel pump primes for a second then stops, then turn ignition again to "start". I can't hear if the pump is running with the engine on - but it must be or the engine would stop, eh?

Pump should run for 2 seconds when ignition is turned on. That's normal. It should also stop after 2 seconds when engine stalls. It's a safety requirement so in a crash if the engine stops the fuel stops. All in all it sounds like your old ECU is OK and the new one is fubar!

Cheers guys, i thought it should pump all the time, any excess then returns to the tank.

Will wait for more replies, if any, then have a look tuesday.

Keep em coming please, cheers, Johnny.

Thinking about it now, with old ecu, pump used to run forever with ignition on.

Could this be why my car over fuels, and rolling road man couldnt do anything, because all adjustments were within the spec. parameters, and him not knowing the pump was on constantly.

New ecu stops after 2 seconds, and probably starts again when needed, therefor not putting too much pressure in the system, and not over fueling.

Now my head hurts.....again lol.

I dont think the fuel pump running constantly would cause over-fuelling since the excess fuel would simply return to the tank as controlled by the fuel pressure regulator. all it would cause would be additional wear on your pump... presumably the fuel pump relay must have switched when first energised and then stayed "on".

Sounds like it is doing what it should do now... mine does the same as the others on here...

I hope that makes you feel better now

K wink
