Did anyone else go to Salon QP over the weekend?
Saw some interesting pieces, JLCs gyro-Tourbillon amongst others, 1 of the 5 existing TAG Pendulums (non-working prototype unfortunately), Zeniths 1/10th second striking movement and their floating gyro tourbillon that remains horizontal however its held. Lots more that I now forget but very good!
Saw Grand Seikos Subs and explorer type spring drive watches. Very nice and I am sure massively accurate but I am not sure I could bring myself to pay £5000 for a Seiko that looks like a Rolex. Am I missing something?
Most interesting was the Daniels / Smith stand though. Hand made watches form the Isle of Man, had a nice chat about them with Robert Smith and wife. Charming story about Daniels, the man who basically created the first Co-Axial movements that Omega adopted. Bit of a chief, though he himself (Daniels) was not there. There is a full story in November's QP magazine.
Got some very nice cuff links and a posh keyring for the girlfriend courtesy of Fred Constant stand too!

I didn't go to Salon QP, however, I did go to a TZ-UK evening at Jura tonight to see the Grand Seikos and Spring Drives up close, and I must say I was really very impressed and somewhat surprised. They really are very, very beautifully made, and I think the Spring Drive movement brings something different to the table. And the bracelets are fabulous - just about the only bracelet I've seen/handled, that I thought I might actually wear.
I confess many of the designs do little for me, but a couple were I thought quite stunning, and I near as dammit bought one on the spot.
