Big Holdens & Fords
Discussion
I've been spending a fair bit of time out in Aus this year due to work & as a result have driven a fair few big Holdens (SV6 / SV8 etc) & Fords (XR6 / XR6 Turbo etc) & they are bloody good cars.
I know we get the Monaro & VXR8 back home, but it seems like we are missing out on a whole raft of big, grunty muscle cars from our Antipodean cousins that would make the perfect antidote to the big, sterile, expensive German metal that we are presented with if we want a large, fast car.
Please, Ford & GM, import more of your big Aussie brutes to the UK!!!!!!

.... is not too bad. I got nearly 800km's out of a 70 litre tankful last Thursday from the SV6 I am running while over here. That's a darned site better than my MercDeranged Granny said:

...and CO2 emmissions I'd guess.Shame, as they're great fun. I rented a Falcon XR6 in Cairns a few years back and enjoyed it immensely. Luckily it was also tough as old boots...
A ford turned out to be deeper than we thought in Daintree National Park. It was towed out, started straight away and produced some quite spectacular waterjets out of its exhausts!
In the Sydney rush hour traffic (which is horrible!), it was giving me 11L/100KM (approx 21mpg). On the freeway, this dropped to 8L/100KM (approx 29mpg). It was rolling at 125km/h at around 1,700rpm, so was very un-stressed.
My Merc at home does approx 14mpg round town & an absolute max on 24mpg on the motorway.
At the end of the day, no-one expects a big car to be particularly frugal, but these seem to offer a real old brute force (and not to mention considerably cheaper) alternative to the very annodyne products from BMW / Merc / Audi.

Exactly. the VXR8s were selling at £23k when they phased them out. the sales aren't there and for those who are tempted by this sort of thing, the Americam muscle cars camaro, Mustang and Challenegr not only offer better looks but also cheaper road tax. My blown Mustang will do 24mpg average and up to 35 on a cruise too.
The Aussie cars also suffer as their styling is a bit too Toyota-bland or tasteless on their performance variants.
That's not to say having the choice wouldn't be nice.
