Tax efficient company car needed!
Discussion
Guys,
I need to get a company car as im starting to do a lot of miles and having to go the company car route. My current s04 330d touring although perfect in every way inc DMS remap only gets me 40mpg at best.
Trying to find something thats decent to drive, but tax efficient.
I can choose from Audi, BMW, Merc, Lexus, Seat, VW, Volvo or Skoda.
Has to be new and prefer auto as i do far too many M25 miles and stop start traffc is painful.
Was thinking of a golf 5dr match dsg - where the petrol is more tax efficient then the diesel. Or the new lexus CT ... which is A rated CO2 .. and looks okay i guess.
Thoughts please.. need to get something ordered asap!

I really liked the CT200h at Paris, which is saying a lot bearing in mind im one of them kneejerk, its a hybrid scrap it kinda guys. Boot space looks small though, make sure there is enough there for you.
...although Evo rated its ride as pulverising (my word, not their, but you get the drift)high mpg, low list price and low co2 really
the c30 diesel does 74mpg i think, the audi a3 1.6tdi and golf bluemotion are good too.
then you can go up a league to say the 320d efficient dynamics and passat cc bluemotion etc.
depends what you can afford or have to pay towards.
nothing wrong with a golf bluemotion with no options imho as it will do high mpg, doesn't cost as much as the audi and low co2.

I personally wouldn't bother with a hybrid: they aren't that economical in the real world and it's just more to go wrong. If you're doing a lot of out of town miles then a hybrid is useless because it's just a heavy car with a weedy petrol engine. To be honest, if you really care about the cost of taxing it then forget about the auto, it bumps it up a couple of tax bands. Stick with a diesel, not all cheap to tax diesel are horrid little eco-cans, I'd suggest:
Audi A4 TDIe: doesn't come as an automatic, but it's tax free this year then £30 thereafter, economical and not bad in terms of performance.
BMW 320d: a bit more expensive than the Audi to tax after year one, but it does come with the option of an auto.
Mercedes C220 CDi: very nice and wafty, comes with the option of an auto and costs the same to tax as the BMW.
Volkswagen Passat Bluemotion: no auto, costs the same to tax as the Audi and is incredibly economical.
Volvo S40 1.6D Drive: very economical, costs the same to tax as the Audi, but can't be had with an auto.
Hope that helped.

...although Evo rated its ride as pulverising (my word, not their, but you get the drift)Hmm.. there is a new passat about to come out as well.. that could work!
My biggest issue is the lack of auto... driving 100 miles a day on the M25 with a manual box could be extremely painful - wish i hadnt had an auto already as i wouldnt have known any beter.
I do like the Merc a lot... had one as a courtesy car while back and its a lovely comfy place to be.
Im looking forward to the 320ed test drive as on paper its a no brainer and a pretty impressive feat from BMW, just its a manual...
Also re a company car (and this if my first) my personal belief is to spec the bare minimum you need as its not your car so no point having a fully speccd car you hand back in 2 yrs.
