Dragon Quest for the DS, suitable for a 10year old??

Hi folks, my ten year has been given Dragon Quest Sentinels of the Starry Skies by a friend of his for his birthday. The thing is the game is rated as a 12 appears to have a certain amount of violent content.
Mrs Streetrod and myself are very strict with our kids about this sort of them and only allow them to watch or play with stuff that has been certified for there age group.
Now as this has been given by his friend his is disparate to play it but we don’t want to take it out of its wrapper if it is going to be unsuitable.
So has anyone played this and could give me an honest review as to its suitability for a ten year old?
Yes I know we sound very anal but its part of the discipline we try to instil in our kids.

The age rating on an RPG like that will be mostly because of the potential complexity of the battle and character system, rather than violence. There won't be any gore - the only violence as such would come from the fact that the game is based around 'killing' monsters (some games use 'knocked out' or whatnot instead), but it will be done in a very child-friendly way with a 12 rating.
Storyline will probably have some underlying hints at darker stuff/stuff aimed more at older people, but unless he's already thinking in that way he won't notice.
Why not try playing it yourself? You only need to play to the first boss or so to get an idea of what the game will be like.
