Hi,

A damp patch under the clutch pedal is making me think that it might be time to renew the master cylinder or at least the seals. Are the complete master cylinders still available and if so where can I get one from? My brain thinks its heard rumours about the master cylinder coming from a TR6...but then someone said that it would need to be a left hand drive TR6 and that I would still need to retain my original pushrod.

The alternative parts list give the following part numbers for a seal kit:
Lucas 74066169
Lockheed LB13DC002A
Does anyone have any experience using either of these kits? Is there anything else I need to get hold of before starting this job (apart from a litre or two of brake fluid)?

Thanks,

Ralph.

Repaired mine with a seal kit from www.powertrackbrakes.co.uk phoned them up and they knew exactly what I needed. I seem to have lost the details of the kit they sent but it was a fairly easy fit apart from the grovelling down the footwell. I also bought a new master cylinder cap as mine had corroded. New one is plastic.

Hi Ralph,

Is TR4,5 & 6, seal kit is available from Moss for approx £7.

Make sure you check the condition of the bore when apart for scoring, not a hard job just take your time and keep things clean and don't get the fluid on your paint.

hope all's well wth you and the family,

Christian.

Hi Ralph,

Unfortunatly not as still doing the house, so may have to wait till next year as time and funds allow. Got some bigger brakes ready to fit but thats as far as I got, not driven her since January!

Engine mods etc are planned.

Hope your beauty is doing well, last time I saw her was a lovely example and a real credit to you (pics?)

Christian.

P.S If you know anyone looking for a Cooper S let me know.

Hi Ralph

I rebuilt the clutch master cylinder in my S2 using one of the seal kits many years ago and it worked fine. A couple of years later it failed again - not the seals, it jammed solid. Surprisingly the spring failed catastrophically and jammed the piston. So check the spring and replace it if it isn't perfect!!

I know you're tall but you may still need someone to hold the spanner on one side of the bulkhead to remove the bolts!

Rebuild progressing slowly but I can honestly say I've driven my S2 more recently than Christian has driven his V8! Even though it's now in a million pieces spread over the west country!!

Cheers

Tom
