Simple question

If your council said they could reduce your council tax bill by £200/year by aggressivley ticketing anyone parking improperly and charging them a £70 PCN - would you go for it?

I wouldn't trust the redder than red council here not to raise the tax by £400 the year after.

I don't believe they're allowed to do that though - thought that money generated by transport (including parking) was ring fenced for use for transport related budgets only.

I'd see it as a stealth tax and I'm sure they wouldn't make themselves popular to get re-elected.

Yes - illegal parking is at best inconsiderate and at worst dangerous as it can obstruct the emergency services.

yes but it wouldnt happen as they would no doubt use the cash gained in extra committees etc to oversea the project. + more people would appeal leading to higher leagl bills. councils and saving cash cannot be used in the same sentence.

Councils already go for as many tickets as they can do they not?

And now I've got a message from the Govt saying the fuel tax is simply a method of filling the coffers to pay for Labour's misspending years.

+1, I will support anything that will curb illegal parking.

^^This. They'd just put it up later on, leaving you with very high taxes and ridiculous parking fines.

if councils get paid by smelters for drink cans, then why don't we
