Actually, looking more closely at the Apple, it seems to offer more than I originally thought.
I hear that an app store will be available soon, meaning on-demand will be there too.
At the price, I'm tempted.....
The apple tv box will end up with IOS on it and will be quite similar to all their other i-thing lineups soon.I hear that an app store will be available soon, meaning on-demand will be there too.

Any reason why you're not looking at a media server or something of that ilk?

None at all, just tempted by new shiny stuff.....
One day I should throw all of my new shiny stuff away and get one box that does the lot.
I'd suggest going for a home media server then as it's infinitely more useful and tres-cool.One day I should throw all of my new shiny stuff away and get one box that does the lot.
I'm not up what's currently the best but i'm sure plotters is.
I'm partly doing this because I know it'll wind plotters up, but, just go and buy an Apple TV.
Why?
- You have a PS3 already, which means you can stream iPlayer et al through yer big telly for as long as it takes for Apple to stick an iOS-esque app store for it on the device.
- You have an Apple computer, which means Apple TV will talk to it and function as a media server front end to all the stuff you can stick on your hard drive.
- You have an iPhone, which you can use as a remote for all of the above (bar the PS3).
- It costs £99. You'll struggle to find a media server get up with as slick a front end and out of the box ease of use for the same price. I did.
It isn't actually that pretty (so small that you'll not see it stuck under your TV in fact, but it works bloody well for the money.

Funnily enough, having now had visibility of the requirements an Apple TV isn't a very good fit in this application.
He could buy one as well of course, that would be fine, but it would be pointless and a turd rolled in glitter but then that's their USP.
How's Satan's IDE? 'Just working' yet?
