VAG DSG gearboxes: any issues?
Discussion
The horrific cost of replacement parts if anything should fail and about 150 quid DSG oil/filter change at a specialist every 40K miles (I think).
I don't think these have the same failure rate as the early Audi TTs as they redesigned it but it was always at the back of my mind that any failure was going to cost thousands not hundreds to put right.

They do need the dsg serviced but its not very often and it only adds a small amount to the bill (£85 dsg oil change?).
My Gti T Dsg I think it was due as an additional service item at 60k miles.
I also had a golf 2.0 dsg non gti that had got to 85k miles with no issues and had no sign of gearbox wear.

Thanks for the replies.
I was sitting in the dealership reading them, and then decided to pull the trigger on a 05 GTi DSG with all the trimmings
Enjoy- I did mine it made a nice sane cheap to run alternative to my RS2.I was sitting in the dealership reading them, and then decided to pull the trigger on a 05 GTi DSG with all the trimmings
edit to add: without a shadow of a doubt you want to get the engine remapped, if you don't plan to keep it that long I believe REVO also do a remap of the DSG box which transforms the car. I had mine REVOd the day it went over 1500miles and it made a decent car into a good one.

If the DSG oil and filter change costs that much I can imagine that many cars won't be getting it done once it is out of warranty or they drop to level where owners run them on the cheap.
Time to add DSG to the Audi multitronic and drop those VAG "autos" off my radar as I tend to buy cars with in excess of 100K and over 8 years old and I don't fancy the repair costs of a neglected DSG no matter how much the tech appeals.
